SUMMARY

In this workshop, after Gabriel shows you his quick simple drawing technique in soft lead pencil, he will share with you his special insight into how to bring spirit into your painting using watercolours so you are left with people commenting on your work … “What a beautiful painting you have.” Gabriel is looking forward to you joining him in this class getting the “Cha Cha Cha” into your paintings.


Preparation - Have your watercolour paper taped down on a movable surface, Gabriel uses 3/4 inch white masking tape on a sheet of wood. Paper 100 % cotton cool press, size is 10x14 inches vertical format, you may draw in the building structure if you have time.

MATERIALS

• PAPER: (1 or 2 single sheets 32x40 inches)

Paper is key. There are many bands to choose that are affordable.

Arches and Fabriano Artistico 100% Cotton, 140lb. These brands can take more surface work to them and hold paint pigments well. Watercolour paper comes with Four types of surfaces: hot press, which is a smooth paper and cold press with regular, rough texture and my personal favourite Soft Press. Choose one at a time to see what you like. Typical outdoor painters use Cold press or rough


• PAINTS: There is a lot of paint to pick from, Daniel Smith is fine for this workshop. Golden Ochre, Ultramarine, Burnt Sienna, Perm. Alizarin Crimson, Neutral tint. I work with both fresh tube, sticks and pan’s.


• BRUSHES: (5 brushes)

Mop: #12 “Blick” Master synthetic squirrel

Rounds: #8 #10 #12 Escoda pearla synthetic

Flat: 3/4's or 1" inch Any is fine synthetic


• OTHER: Palette , there are many choices to buy. A small travel palette or a large Studio palette is fine. One water container, paper towels, pencil 4b, an affordable sketch book, eraser, masking tape, something to tape/stretch watercolour paper on… (foam core, wood, coroplast).
