Catherine Beale
from
England
Catherine Beale is a painter specialising in super-vibrant, “gravity painted” experimental watercolours!
Catherine's artistic practice began in Singapore in the 1990s which has influenced her use of strong colours. Since her return to the UK in 2006 she has been taken by the Cotswold countryside around her hillside studio - its mists and woods. Catherine's home borders the Heritage City of Bath whose graceful Regency buildings, bridges and canal are another major source of inspiration.
Catherine strives to convey the quality of light with the excitement of “fast and loose" watercolours. New pigments are like ink in their intensity and can be applied onto all sorts of surfaces. By dropping running paint into water, Catherine mingle hues together, encouraging their natural tendency to channel across the surface like rivers and create subtle water marks.
Catherine has been told her demonstrations are friendly, enthusiastic and generous with information. She is an SAA registered tutor and elected member of the Society of Women Artists. Catherine's watercolour portraits have exhibited with the Royal Watercolour Society and Institute of Painters in Watercolours.

David Bellamy
from
Wales
Mainly inspired by the wilder landscapes of mountain, Arctic and desert, David paints primarily in watercolour, and much of his work results from expeditions into the remote regions. He has written 20 books illustrated with his paintings and sketches, produced numerous DVDs, and presented his own series on television. David is also deeply concerned about the intense pressures on the countryside from developments, many of which threaten to destroy some of our finest landscapes.
David R. Smith
from
Minnesota
David began his artistic journey studying Chinese Brush Painting in the United States and China. A decade later, he was introduced to Western style watercolour painting. Ever since, he has been hooked on watercolour painting, and has become a popular artist and instructor nationally and internationally, as well as a sought-after juror. David is the recipient of the Skyledge Award (the highest recognition awarded by the Transparent Watercolour Society of America), an award winner and signature member of the American Watercolour Society, signature member of the National Watercolour Society, and his work has earned him numerous “Best of Show” awards, signature memberships, showings in galleries and museums across the United States and abroad, and inclusion in publications including Fine Art Connoisseur, International Artist, and multiple editions of SPLASH – The Best of Watercolour.
With over 25 years of experience as a public school teacher, he is skilled at breaking down complex concepts and skills into easily learned chunks and now enjoys helping workshop participants find success with watercolour.
